APSU Volleyball loses to #21 Western Kentucky in three sets – Clarksville Online

Bowling Green, Kentucky – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) volleyball team lost a match in three sets (16-25, 18-25, 16-25) against the No. 21 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers to conclude their stay at the Holiday Inn – University Plaza Invitational, Saturday at EA Diddle Arena.

Mikayla Powell led Austin Peay (4-4) with seven kills, while Erin Eisenhart had 18 digs — her sixth game this season with 15 or more digs.




January Buggs landed two of his four serving aces early in the first set, the latter cutting the Governors deficit to 7-6. Austin Peay State University kept the opening set close at the halfway mark, tying it at 11 before falling victim to a 7-2 run at Western Kentucky (9-1) and ultimately dropping the set 18-25.

After falling in the first set, Austin Peay State University took its first lead following a 4-0 6-3 lead in the penultimate period after three WKU errors and Buggs’ third serve ace. The Hilltoppers responded to the Govs score with a 15-5 run to power themselves to a second-set victory.

The Governors led throughout the first half of the final set, holding a one-scoring advantage with 13 points; however, three consecutive WKU points forced the APSU governors to call the timeout.

Western Kentucky controlled the momentum throughout the rest of the period, securing the game after a 25-16 victory.

Next step for APSU Volleyball

The Austin Peay State University volleyball team returns to Dunn Center on Friday, September 16 to face North Dakota State. The game starts at 12:00 p.m.
