Black Achievement in Aviation Honored at Bowman Field for Second Year | Morning

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) – In honor of Black History Month, the Louisville Regional Airport Authority is celebrating the history of black accomplishments in aviation.

WDRB’s Keith Kaiser takes a look at The Sky’s the Limit exhibit.

For the second year in a row, you can visit the Bowman Field Terminal Building and learn about specific members of the black aviation community and their accomplishments during the month of February.

Visitors can see how these men and women got their start in aviation, any adversity they faced, and how they eventually rose to greatness and fame.

The exhibition highlights 14 people and organizations, including:

Bessie Coleman, first black woman to receive a pilot’s license

Katherine Johnson, black mathematician who helped send a NASA astronaut on a mission to orbit Earth

Robert Lawrence, pilot designation as the first black astronaut
