Child in hospital after being shot in the head in Hillview

A 4-year-old boy remains in hospital after being shot in the head on Wednesday. Hillview Police Department Chief William Mahoney said the shooting was reported at around 11:50 a.m. near Block 200 from Bigwood Way. the boy shot in the head. They also found a woman injured by an apparent assault. According to Mahoney, the injuries were described as serious, but not fatal. Meanwhile, the boy was taken to Norton Children’s Hospital in critical condition, according to Mahoney. He said the boy is listed in stable condition on Wednesday evening. “That poor little boy,” said neighbor Rose Harvey. “It breaks my heart to think of him.” Mahoney said a man was also found at the scene with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to hospital, where he died. Police say witnesses told officers they saw the woman with the boy running away from the house on Bigwood Way. They said the man rushed after them, where he apparently ran over the woman before assaulting her. According to investigators, the man, who has not yet been identified, returned home, where he shot himself in the head, according to investigators. “There’s no reason for anyone to do something like this,” Harvey said. “Nothing is that bad.” Mahoney said a 5-month-old baby was also at home at the time of the incident but was not injured. Investigators believe the woman and children lived at home. “People are praying for these people,” Harvey said. “And we need all the prayers we can get for them.” No other person was involved in the incident.
