Louisville Drive and Walk vacation events are so much fun for 2021 and we’ve rounded up vacation experience ideas to enjoy the LIGHTS!

Families got creative in the past year and it will continue to do so this year. These driving vacation events are contactless and outdoors!

Louisville’s Driving Christmas Lights and Driving Christmas events are popping up all over the region for contactless, outdoor, and safe family fun this holiday season. There are also many walking experiences. We are delighted that the places are innovating! Usually we have a page and page list of all kinds of Christmas events happening over two months. This year, we have to look a little more!

We have found options for families and will continue to add to this Christmas driving list from Louisville. If we find more options, we’ll add them. The events are listed in chronological order according to their opening date. Many of these are available every night so it’s a good idea to think about going on a weekday evening, they will be popular. Some of them may even have the opportunity to go out and take pictures!

Christmas Driving Events in Louisville:

Clay Street Light Show is NEW and FREE – back for 2021! 1249 S Clay St, 40203. A 10-minute drive-thru show synchronized with holiday music transmitted through your car’s FM stereo at 89.9 FM. The show takes place from Friday to Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Lights Under Louisville ($) Louisville Mega Cavern driving Christmas lights. Buy your tickets in advance online. There are also day experiences for 4 to 6 people, the Christmas Express. Plus, you can pay more to ‘skip the line’ and get a priority pass for evening dates.

November 26 – January 3

Light Up Louisville – FREE – Festive downtown lighting will feature a rainbow of colors to celebrate Christmas, as well as holiday-themed gobos celebrating Kwanza, Hanukah, and any special days of the season looking to reflect the diversity of our community. The Many Lights Parade will once again march along Jefferson Street to the heart of Light Up Louisville, Vendor Village and the Kids’ Zone.

Winter Illuminations at Parklands – ($) CANCELED FOR 2021. Running through January 2nd. Walk through the lights on a trail through the Parklands.

November 21 – December 31

Information pending for 2021. Free Drive through a light show in Jeffersontown, Veterans Memorial Park. Save the date: December 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Father Christmas and the Elves will be there. Isn’t it wonderful that this Christmas driving event in Louisville is free? !

November 26 – December 31

Southern Lights Holiday Festival ($ 25 per car) Kentucky Horse Park – 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. If you’re looking for a little trip, take a trip to Lexington for this event behind the wheel of the holiday lights. You travel five kilometers of dazzling holiday light shows along the charming paths of the farm in the equestrian park. Not open on Christmas Eve.

November 26 – December 12

Lights on Main Street – Reallocated Lot, 615 Main West Street. Walk through an exhibit of living Christmas trees for the community to enjoy and benefit a local nonprofit through tree sponsorship. Free, there is a donation box. Monday and Tuesday: closed, Wednesday and Thursday: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 12:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Pending dates

Rudolph Race ($) An adventure in your car, solving clues to find the missing information to complete Santa’s list. If you complete the list you will be entered to win a $ 100 gift card and they will raffle a winner each week. They will have an ice rink at the end. (Masks compulsory, capacity limited)

All along the season

Blue’s Light Show is also fun for the family and free to experience. In this house, the sequence lights up to music. When you are there, to listen to music, please tune your radio to 91.3 FM and enjoy. During your visit, you remain under your care and attend the show! Great save Louisville light show and vacation event! Location: 4602 Glenna Way, 40219.

Also, a reader emailed us about her own homes in Shelby County that have cool displays. It has over 100,000 lights, 18 computers that run the show. It’s an 18-minute show with a 42-minute intermission (during intermission the lights are on continuously), all in sync with the music. Impressive! The address is 580 Derby Lane Finchville, KY 40022.

November 24 – January 1

Lights at Freeman Lake Park (Elizabethtown) – If you’re looking for a night out, you can head to Freeman Lake Park every night from 6pm to 11pm. Drive through the lights with fun themes like Rudolph, Christmas themed Star Wars, the Nativity scene and more. You turn off your lights and turn on the music! It’s FREE, donations are accepted.

November 26 – end of December

The Christmas town of Charlestown – FREE – It’s in Southern Indiana. Take a walk or if you want to walk through and see the lights, you can see the lights of the town square from the road. They have a supplier form set up on their website, so we’re assuming this event is back for 2021 as it was before 2020.

November 26 – December 25

Toyland Christmas Display – FREE – Stunning house that lights up so bright it’s wonderful. You can drive by or go out and walk around. You can find out more by clicking here.

Spectacular discount on the winter woods

Winter Woods Spectacular ($) at Iroquois Park benefits the Parks Alliance of Louisville. This is a paid event. Walk through the woods illuminated by thousands of lights and beautiful winter scenes. Tickets cost $ 35 per car. Click HERE to see how you can save $ 5.

December 2 – December 30 (different opening dates, see website)

Gardens Aglimmer at Waterfront Botanical Gardens – ($) 5:45 p.m.-9 p.m. (arrival at the grounds begins at 5:30 p.m.). Time slots available every evening: 5.45 p.m., 6.30 p.m., 7.15 p.m., 8 p.m. THE LIGHTS GO OUT AT 9 P.M. $ 7 per person. FREE for children 12 and under (children must be accompanied by an adult). Must purchase tickets in advance.

Light Up St. Matthews is December 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. Even if you are not going to the light event, you can go through Brown Park and see the lights for yourself or go out and walk around! Have a hot chocolate before you go, it’s a very good evening.

Chamber St. Matthews has had a holiday decorating contest in 2020, so we hope they will do it again for 2021. If so, you could go visit all of their winners for a nice night out at the looking for pretty lights.

Drive right next to the minions house in New Albany! 2032 Indiana Ave New Albany, IN 47150. The ground is lit by lights and they have SO many explosive minions in their backyard. It’s a spectacle! Fun even during the day when they are inflated but not lit. We’ve included a few videos below so you can see what to expect!

Buffalo Trace Distillery

Take a short trip to Frankfort and walk through the lights of the Buffalo Trace Distillery. Buffalo Trace invites everyone to view the distillery illuminated with thousands of Christmas lights from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., December 2 to January 1 from the safety of your cars. It’s free! Approximately 150,000 colored lights, including four brand new illuminated displays by the visitor center. Santa will be making a special social appearance along our Holiday Lights Route 12/2 and 9/12 to 12/12, 5:30 pm-7:30pm! Children can hand their letters to one of Santa’s elves who will place them in a special North Pole letterbox for Santa to read later. Individually pre-packaged treats will also be handed out by Santa’s elves. The Buffalo Trace Distillery is located at 113 Great Buffalo Trace, Frankfort, Ky.
