Donations for Citations Drive begin Monday, February 28

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (February 18, 2022) Donations for Citations, a grassroots program that helps stock the shelves of the University of Kentucky’s Big Blue Pantry (BPP), will take place this year from Monday, February 28 through Friday, March 11.

UK students and employees who have a parking ticket can pay their fees during this two-week period by donating food or personal care items to Big Blue Pantry. Participating is easy! Simply bring your donations to the UK Transportion Service Customer Service Center at 721 Press Avenue to settle your quote. Customer service is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

This will be the seventh year that UK Transportation Services has partnered with Big Blue Pantry, an on-campus organization tackling hunger and food insecurity for UK students.

Since its inception in 2016, Donations for Citations has delivered nearly 14,000 pounds of food and personal care items to the pantry. Over 1,000 people have participated in the past six years, making it one of BBP’s largest food drives.

“Our staff look forward to the Donations for Citations program each year,” said Lance Broeking, director of UK Transportation Services. “This program provides a great opportunity for our department to give back to the campus community by helping to address food insecurity.”

Ten groceries or five personal care items will void a regular quote of $30 or less. Regular citations do not include holdings, impoundments, parking in fire lanes, ADA accessible parking violations, or improper application or use of parking permits. Customers with unpaid quotes must also pay all other outstanding quotes in order to have one canceled under this program. Quotations canceled through the reader cannot be appealed.

This year, BBP is requesting the following food and personal care products:

Suggested items for food donations:

Cereal, instant oatmeal, granola bars, pop pies or other take-out breakfast foods, boxed macaroni, noodles, pasta sauce, rice, canned meats such as chicken, tuna, beef, pork or vegetarian alternatives, individual cups of fruit or applesauce, shelf stable microwave dishes, peanut butter, condiments, jellies, shelf stable salad dressing

Please note: Expired, damaged or opened donations will not be accepted. Also, items refrigerated or in glass containers will not be accepted.

Suggested personal care items:

Cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, hand sanitizer, body soap, shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, razors, tampons, sanitary napkins, first aid or medical supplies

Please note: Expired, damaged or opened donations will not be accepted. No trial sizes, please.

If you have any questions about citation donations, please email UK Transportation Services or call the office at 859-257-5757.
