Lexington Firefighters respond to a structure fire on Sunny Slope Trace in Lexington, Ky., Friday, July 1, 2022.
Two homes on Sunny Slope Trace sustained significant damage in a two-alarm fire Friday afternoon.
“Both homes are going to be a total loss,” said Maj. Jessica Bowman of the Lexington Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
Bowman said the fire on the 800 block of Sunny Slope, off Wyndham Hills Drive in south Lexington, was reported at 4:07 p.m. When firefighters arrived, she said she found a fire “very advanced” involving two structures.
“Crews experienced intense fire conditions upon arrival,” she said. “The fire spread from the original house to a neighboring house, and a second alarm was raised.”
She said Friday’s heat and the fact that the fire was advanced made it important to call in additional crews for safety reasons. More than 50 firefighters responded to the scene.
Bowman said one of the houses would have been vacant. The family who lived in the other house will be staying with friends or family members, she said.
Bowman said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
