Kentucky Baseball Ends Regular Season With 7-5 Win Over Number 2 Vanderbilt

Well that was fun. Kentucky Baseball’s 2021 regular season ends on a high note as Kentucky wins Game 3 against the No.2 Vanderbilt Commodores, beating the defending National Champions 7-5 in Nashville.

Despite a brave effort last weekend, the Bat ‘Cats gave up the first two games at Vanderbilt on the final weekend, but got the chance to play the spoiler on the Vanderbilt SEC East crown.

I was seconds away from hitting Submit on a losing baseball recap before Coltyn Kessler rushed in to save the day for the Wildcats. Until their last strike, down 4-2, and two runners in goal position, Coltyn Kessler hits a laser into right field to put Kentucky ahead 5-4 in the 9th lead.

Jake Plastiak tacked on two more points in the top of the 9th to give Kentucky a three-point cushion before the final frame.

Kentucky would give up a run for the ‘Dores, but they ultimately closed the door on a comeback, beating Vandy 7-5. A crucial victory for a Kentucky team that clings to an NCAA tournament offer by a thread.

Once again, the Bat ‘Cats were out of the gates as soon as Austin Schultz started the game with a first home run to left field.

Back-to-back doubles from TJ Collett and Coltyn Kessler put the Wildcats up to a 2-0 lead after first frame.

Vanderbilt would hang a third place down from 5th on a pair of field hits to take a 3-2 lead. The Dores would tack one more down the 8th take, going 4-2 ahead of the 9th inning heroics Kentucky.

Kentucky finished the regular season with a 29-22 (12-18) record, we will have a message on the chances of the Bat ‘Cats Tournmanet shortly.

Kentucky will have a chance to become the SEC tournament champion in Hoover, AL next week.
