Kentucky baseball is the first 12 seed to win the SEC tournament game

HOOVER, Ala. (FOX 56) – Oraj Anu was injured for much of the season, but made his biggest contribution in the biggest game of the season on Wednesday.

Anu hit a home run to put Kentucky, and Adam Fogel followed it up with a solo shot to propel the Wildcats past 5-seeded Auburn, 3-1.

It’s the Cats’ third win over Auburn last week, winning the series against the Tigers last weekend. Kentucky (30-24) takes on LSU Thursday at 10:30 a.m. ET.

Leading 1-0 in the eighth, Daniel Harper threw a 3-2 pitch at the plate that fellow SEC Player of the Year Sonny DiChiara sent out of the park to tie things up.

“Obviously that Sonny home run was huge,” Kentucky head coach Nick Mingione said after the game.

“I’m obviously proud of how our guys reacted afterwards because it would have been very easy to feel they had all the momentum, but our guys did it and they kept on competing. So proud of how they competed,” Mingione added.

After becoming the first 12 seed to win a game in the SEC tournament, all attention is on LSU. “It’s a really offensive team. You’ve seen it all year. A team that can throw and match really well,” Mingione said. “There’s a reason they’ve won as many games as they have in the league. We will certainly have our hands full against a really quality team.

The Tigers (37-18) are on a four-game winning streak heading into the game.
