In fact, when the Roebling opened on December 1, 1866, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. Later, in 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge would usurp that title, reaching an astounding height of 1,595.5 feet.
But that doesn’t take away from the pomp and grandeur of the Roebling. Listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places and designated a United States National Historic Landmark, the bridge remains one of the nation’s most iconic and stunning pieces of architecture and an important part of northern culture. from Kentucky.
Pedestrians today use the bridge to get between Cincinnati’s sporting venues (Paul Brown Stadium, Great American Ball Park, and US Bank Arena) and Northern Kentucky’s myriad of incredible hotels, bars, restaurants, and parking lots.
In fact, the bar and restaurant district at the foot of the bridge on the Kentucky side is known as Roebling Point, and it’s a bustling little hub!
