Man breaks Guinness World Record for fastest mile reversed at NCM Motorsports Park

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) — Most of us would never dare to live in the fast lane, let alone drive in reverse at high speeds, but one man has broken the Guinness World Record for fastest mile traveled backwards.

“In 2000 or so I had a Honda S200, and for some reason I needed to back up like, quarter mile, I forget how far that was, and then I thought to myself , well, I’m just going to see how fast it goes. I’ve never tried that, and that car was going 47 mph,” says Scot Burner, who just broke the record.

Curiosity piqued Burner’s interest in comparing how fast the vehicles could go when backing them up.

“At some point, about three, two and a half years ago, I started documenting them on YouTube. So I looked on YouTube and there was no station or channel showing how fast a car could roll back, which is a dumb question. Not many people want to know, but I did it,” Burner added.

It’s a hobby he says isn’t for everyone.

“It’s kind of a funny and weird thing, not many people want to know how fast a car is going backwards, but I think it’s fun and funny and luckily I didn’t destroy anything,” he adds .

Recently, Burner broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest mile backed up at the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, driving a Corvette.

“On that run I was sitting, there’s a rev limiter, which is the top speed the engine was ready to go. So I did that there for almost the whole mile,” he says .

Burner says he has yet to drive the C8 Corvette in reverse and is now looking for his next record-breaking challenge.

“I’ll try to find something in the book that I feel like I can accomplish,” he also says.
