LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – Despite the increase in COVID cases, New Years events in Lexington continued.
It’s one of the biggest bar nights of the year. After months of canceled events, vacations and large meetings, customers have refused to let COVID-19 shut down anything this year.
“We’re just trying to have fun with all of our friends. It’s been a while,” Avery Combs said as she hopped from bar to bar downtown.
Combs and his friends have all been tested earlier today.
“We are scared but we are careful people,” said Anna Riley.
The New Year’s Black and White Ball expected 300 to 400 people before the end of the evening.
“We really wanted to use this as a unity opportunity to bring people together. People have had a really hard time a few years since this thing started with the pandemic. And so, we wanted to provide a place where people can go. have fun come dance the night away Just enjoy the music, ”said organizer Ian Gabrielle.
Across town at Greyline Station, The Social Vegan teamed up with Sassy Wellness to host a Latin dance night.
“The Latin community reached out to us and said they wanted something to do for tonight. And so, we reached out to Greyline Statin and they agreed to let us come here and sort it out. And we’re super excited to dance with everyone tonight, ”said Libby Cortes, owner of Sassy Wellness.
