Police say armed robbery suspect is in custody after driving through Lexington neighborhood

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A man was arrested and questioned by police Saturday night after they said he robbed a Lexington subway at knifepoint.

The subway was located on Pimlico Parkway near Man o’ War Boulevard and Lexington police said they received calls about the theft around 4 p.m.

“I called my neighbor and she told me there was a robbery at Park Hills. [Center]said Karen Wheeler, who lives in the area.

Shortly after, a nearby quiet neighborhood became quite noisy as the suspect began running through the yards in an attempt to evade police.

“There were four or five police officers walking through my neighbor’s yard,” Wheeler said.

Wheeler lives in the Mt. McKinley area, where police say they eventually found and detained the suspect.

“This is only the second time in 10 years that we’ve seen something happen in this neighborhood,” Wheeler said.

Although this unusual occurrence has raised concerns, Wheeler says she is lucky to live in a tight-knit community that cares for each other.

“It means a lot, we look out for each other and I love that,” Wheeler said. “We have good neighbors.”

We have contacted Lexington Police for further details as we work to learn the name of the detained man, how much money he has been charged with taking and what charges he will face.
