Reader Poll: Who Serves the Best Donut in Lexington, KY?

After having fun around Lexington’s favorite little bookstore or independent bookstore, we’re bringing back the local business parenthesis contest, and this time we’re giving you a real treat: donuts.

We’ve put together a list of 16 donut shops in and around Lexington, as well as bakeries that sell deep-fried pastries, and hope you’ll help us determine the best pick.

Below is the first iteration of this parenthesis contest. If we missed a donut shop in the area that you know and love, email us at [email protected] so we can add them.

Our first round of 16 is Frank’s Donuts, Spalding’s Bakery, North Lime Coffee & Donuts, Parlor Donuts, Donut Days Bakery, OMG Donuts, Magee’s Baking Co., Doughdaddy’s Donuts, Sweet Creations Bakery, Daylight Donuts, Daily Donuts, Burke’s Bakery and Delicatessen , Dunkin’ and Krispy Kreme and Best Donuts.

Here is a summary of how it works.

What we included

We’ve rounded up 14 handcrafted little donut outfits around Lexington, but to even out our true “Sweet 16”, we’ve included the Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ chains.

Some companies offer donuts as the main menu item, while others offer a variety of breakfast foods and pastries.

How and when to vote

Our Sweet 16 will remain live until noon on Friday, May 27. The second round will begin this afternoon.

the Elite Eight voting will remain open until noon on Friday, June 3.

Vote in the Final square will open that afternoon and remain open until noon on Friday, June 10, when the Championship will go live.

A winner is expected to be announced on Friday, June 17.

Our support is not scientific, it’s just for fun. You can vote for your favorite as many times as you want.

Here is some information about the donut shops in the running.

Frank’s donuts: Located on Third St., Frank’s Donuts offers menus that include classics like old-fashioned cake and stuffed specialties, such as bear claws. The prices are also low, with regular donuts under a dollar. Location: 549 E.Third St., Lexington, KY 40508

Spalding Bakery: In business since 1929, when the founders started tossing donuts from their homes, Spalding now sells hand-formed donuts from Winchester Road. In addition to the classic donuts, it also offers other sweet treats. Location: 760 Winchester Rd, Lexington, KY 40505

North Lime Coffee and Donuts: Located in the refurbished Greyline station, North Lime advertises “life-changing artisan coffee and donuts”. Donut flavors are a little less traditional and also offer vegan options. The company has other locations in Clays Mill and Old Louisville. Location: 101 West Loudon Ave, Suite 160, Lexington, KY 40508

Parlor donuts: Although the company recently opened a location in Jacksonville, Florida, donut lovers in Lexington can find a local lounge on Euclid Avenue. The outfit offers interesting flavors and even dog-friendly donuts, according to the company’s Facebook page. Location: 630 Euclid Ave, Lexington, KY 40502

Donut Days Bakery: Another longer-running donut staple in town, Donut Days has been serving since 1972, according to its Facebook page. They advertise fresh donuts and a variety of other sweet treats. Location: 185 Southland Drive, Lexington, KY 40503

OMG Donuts: A new donut shop in town that has so far been a hit with customers for its classic $1.19 donuts, as well as croissants, bagels, coffee and more. The company shares menu items and updates on its Facebook page. Location: 3449 Buckhorn Drive, Lexington, KY 40515

Magee’s Baking Co.: Magee’s not only offers donuts, but many other menu offerings spanning breakfast and lunch. Yeast, Cake and Long John Donuts come in different flavors. Location: 726 E. Main St., Lexington, KY 40502

Doughdaddy’s donuts: Doughdaddy’s offers a selection of sweet and fried treats from their location in Versailles. It advertises fresh donuts throughout the day (even offering one free with a full tank of gas), with hours of operation from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Location: 3325 Lexington Road, Versailles, KY 40383

Southern Glazed Donuts: Located in Georgetown, Southern Glazed sells a variety of donuts starting at 5 a.m. The company was previously called Mike’s Donuts. Location: 403 S. Broadway St., Georgetown KY 40324

Sweet Creations Bakery: An online menu for Sweet Creations advertises a number of donuts, including filled, among many other baking items. If you fancy something tasty, the company offers options accordingly. Location: 2312 Palumbo Drive, 110, Lexington, KY 40509.

Donuts of the day: Located in Nicholasville, Daylight offers a wide selection for the sweet tooth, including special brightly colored and holiday-themed treats. Location: 1020 N. Main St., Nicholasville, KY 40356

Daily donuts: Also in Nicholasville, Daily Donuts offers a variety of donuts in addition to many breakfast sandwiches, smoothies and drinks. Location: 908 S. Main St., Nicholasville, KY 40356

Burke’s Bakery and Deli: If you’re in Danville, you might be a Burke’s customer. The shop offers donuts, donut holes, cakes and more. Location: 121 W. Main St., Danville, KY 40422

Best donuts: For those in Richmond in desperate need of a donut, Best Donuts has a wide variety. The company provides updates on specials and closures via its Facebook page. Location: 711 Big Hill Ave, Richmond, KY 40475

Krispy Kreme: With approximately 1,400 stores, Krispy Kreme operates locally near Richmond Road. The chain is known for its classic glazed donut and its “hot donuts now” sign. Location: 2893 Richmond Road, Lexington, KY 40509.

Dunkin’: Chain Dunkin’ has at least three locations around Lexington. The company still offers its donuts, although it dropped them from its name, along with many breakfast and beverage products.
