Sekisui Specialty Chemicals Wins Governor’s Award for Safety and Health

Govt. Andy Beshear was close at hand May 10 at the Governor’s Annual Safety and Health Conference and Expo in bowling green to hand over the prize to the managers of the company. During his keynote address, he urged employers to protect Kentucky as building projects across the Commonwealth continue to boom and factories increase capacity.

“Protecting our people on the job – it’s part of our faith, it’s part of our values, it’s part of protecting everyone and living this very simple lesson that everyone matters,” Governor Beshear said. . “Every person is valuable. Everyone is a child of God, and when we commit to safety, I believe we are living that faith and those values.”

For more than three decades, the Kentucky Cabinet of Labor and the Kentucky Safety and Health Network, Inc. have partnered to host the Governor’s Safety and Health Conference and Expo. The annual event offers private sector employers the opportunity to attend technical training on a myriad of workplace safety topics and engage with safety and health specialists.

According to the Governor, the increased attention given to workplace safety by employers in recent years has continued to pay off. The rate of recordable, nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses in the state’s private and public sectors fell last year to the lowest point on record since the Bureau of Labor Statistics began tracking it. in 1996.

“No matter where you work in the Commonwealth, every Kentuckian has the right to be safe and earn a living to raise their family,” Governor Beshear said. “And everyone should have confidence knowing that their employer is working just as hard every day to improve safety in every way.”
