State High School Athletics Championships held in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – The KHSAA Class 3A Athletics State Championships took place Saturday at the United Kingdom Athletics Complex, giving high school athletes a chance to bring gear back to the home.

A number of state championships have been won by local schools in central Kentucky, including a few titles won by athletes from West Jessamine. Aly Doyle won the girls’ 300 meters hurdles for the second consecutive year, while Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Kiera Antoni finished second in the event.

Lafayette’s Sarah Ferguson made pole vault history, erasing the 13-6 mark to set a new KHSAA state record. She attempted to push her new record even further with an attempt at 13-7 but was unsuccessful, but still won the state championship.

In men’s pole vault, Madison Central’s Wyatt Stewart is one of the highest rated pole vaulters in the nation and set the state record last year with a 16-1 rating. He returned on Saturday and broke his own state record, erasing a 16-3 mark to win the state championship.

The Class 1A state championships were held Thursday in Kentucky and the Class 2A was held Friday.
