FAU Women’s Soccer (7-5-3, 3-2-1 C-USA) earned a dominating 6-0 victory at home against the University of Texas at El Paso Miners (3-8-3, 0-4 -2 C-USA) Friday night.

The Owls had full control throughout the game, shooting 22 total, compared to the Miners’ zero. Senior midfielder Thelma Hermannsdottir put in an outstanding performance, scoring three goals for a hat-trick. It’s the first time an FAU player has accomplished the feat since Miracle Porter in 2019.

FAU was quick to shake things up, creating plenty of chances in the opening minutes. Hermannsdottir scored the game’s first goal in the 14th minute, sending a shot into the net 15 yards out on an assist from redshirted second Mia Sennes.

In the 38th minute, senior defender Hailey Landrus scored a remarkable goal straight from a corner kick.

UTEP couldn’t figure anything out either side of the ball in the first half, highlighted by taking zero shots and leaving 10.

The Owls stayed hot in the second half, creating chance after chance. Hermannsdottir struck again in the 53rd minute with an assist from graduate striker Bri Austin.

UTEP, on the other hand, remained cold in the second half. The team barely retained possession of the ball and, like in the first half, didn’t take a shot.

First-year striker Elin Simonardottir put one in the 76th minute, assisted by second-year midfielder Emmy Schleifer. Just 10 minutes later, Landrus played an overhand ball for Hermansdottir, who converted his third goal of the game in the 86th minute.

With just a minute left to play, Landrus picked up his second assist of the night when he passed it to Sennes for a goal in the 89th minute, the Owls’ sixth and final goal of the game.

FAU’s next game will be on the road in Bowling Green, Ky., against Western Kentucky University on Thursday, October 13 at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast on C-USA TV.
