UK Athletics partners with Samaritan’s Feet to donate 10,000 pairs of shoes to Eastern Kentucky

Eastern Kentucky is still recovering from devastating floods that hit the region about a month ago. With families losing everything, the Commonwealth came together to lend a hand in recovery efforts in the region.

Kentucky Athletics will also do its part, as tomorrow they will deliver 10,000 pairs of shoes to aid in recovery efforts through a partnership with Samaritan’s Feet. Kentucky Wildcats head basketball coach John Calipari took to Twitter to share the exciting news Monday night.

According to Calipari, the shoes will be distributed at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET and Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET.

Alongside Calipari, Blair Bergmann (STUNT Team Head Coach), Golda Borst (Women’s Golf Head Coach), Brian Craig (Men’s Golf Head Coach), Carlos Drada (Women’s Tennis Head Coach) and Kyra Elzy (women’s basketball head coach) will all be heading to the area tomorrow to help distribute shoes at both locations.

The Cats teamed up with Samaritan’s Feet on their recent trip to the Bahamas, as they handed out shoes and washed the feet of local kids in Nassau. They also distributed shoes to those in Western Kentucky as they began the process of recovery from December’s devastating tornadoes.

Again, the sport is great, but it’s moments like this that remind us that it’s so much bigger than the game. I love seeing it.

Go cats!
