LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) — Starting next season, University of Louisville fans will need to tune their radios to new channels to hear Cardinal Athletics.
The UofL and Louisville Sports Properties of Learfield, the media rights holder, announced this morning that an agreement has been reached with Louisville First Radio Group to be the flagship of the Louisville Cardinals Radio Network.
Under the agreement, ESPN 93.9 FM “The Ville” and WGTK 970 AM will carry all of Cardinal’s sports programming. Both stations will also be the primary home radio for UofL Athletics.
The university said it would be the first time the same radio partner would broadcast UofL football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and football and basketball coaches’ broadcasts. Louisville First Radio announced that it would add a baseball coaching show in the spring of 2023.
When two UofL programs are broadcast at the same time, the signals will be split so that both contests are broadcast live.
“This is great news for UofL fans,” said University of Louisville acting athletic director Josh Heird. “For the first time ever, our fans will have a home radio to listen to Cards football, basketball and baseball broadcasts in the Louisville market. While we appreciate the longstanding relationship with iHeart, it’s a brilliant move for the Cards and for our fans, where we’ll have dedicated, top-notch coverage as a hometown team.
The multi-year agreement begins July 1. The university says all of the broadcast talent — including Paul Rogers, the longtime voice of Cardinal football and men’s basketball — will continue in the roles.
